Welcome to Glenlude

Glenlude is a complex of farms and houses located adjacent to the B 709 six miles south of Innerleithen. It lies within the old county of Peeblesshire (Tweeddale); a part of the administrative areas of Innerleithen, Traquair and Glen Community Council and Scottish Borders Council. The UK parliamentary constituency is Dumfriesshire, Clydesdale & Tweeddale.

Glenlude comprises the following properties:

Glenlude Farm

There are two farms currently with the same name. The hill farm is part of a hill sheep farm. The other previously known as Kirkhouse is being converted into a forest and may become part of Glenlude Forest.

Glenlude Farmhouse

This was the original farmhouse associated with Kirkhouse which is now known as Glenlude. It is now a private dwelling house.   This is the house to the left of the picture.

Glenlude House

This was the original farmhouse for Glenlude Farm with access from a drove road between Traquair and Blackhouse in the Yarrow valley. There is evidence that there has been a farmhouse serving Glenlude Farm on this site since the 18th century. It is now in private ownership as a domestic dwelling house.  This is the house situated on the hill.

Access is via the B 709 Heriot to Langholm Road about 5 miles south of Innerleithen and about 1 mile south of the Tweeddale - Ettrick and Lauderdale boundary. The road is known as Paddy Slacks between that boundary and the top of the hill.

The properties are served by the Peebles Post Office sorting office.

The Post Code is EH44 6PY (Innerleithen) which Glenlude shares with Newhall.

The local telephone exchange is Innerleithen Code (01896). Although the distance from the exchange restricts the bandwidth of ADSL broadband, broadband is available at Glenlude

The area is served by the Innerleithen FM radio and Freeview television transmitter.

Glenlude Hill Climb 1902

A motor sport event was held on the public road passing Glenlude in 1902.  This was a speed event over a measured mile up Paddy Slacks about 4 miles south of Innerleithen.  The event is still being researched but a preliminary note can be found on these pages.
